Are you considering studying Spanish in Spain? Valencia, with its stunning architecture and vibrant culture, might be just the place for you! As you explore your options, you’ll find that Valencia is home to numerous Spanish schools, and they also have great ratings! With so many choices available, it can be a bit overwhelming to decide which school is the best fit for you.

I had the same choice to make, and decided to study Spanish at Taronja, which is one of the most popular Spanish schools in Valencia. It is a huge school, with lots of students, right in the city centre of Valencia. Here is everything you need to know about studying Spanish at Taronja Spanish School.

Location of Taronja Spanish School

Taronja Spanish School is right in the heart of Valencia, making it super convenient for anyone looking to dive into Spanish while experiencing the city’s culture first-hand. The school is located on Carrer del Convent de Santa Clara, just a short stroll from Plaza del Ayuntamiento, so you’re right in the middle of all the action. Whether you want to grab a coffee between classes or explore Valencia’s historic spots, everything’s just around the corner.

Depending on where in the city you are staying, you can easily reach Taronja, by walking, metro, bus or biking.

Classes at Taronja Spanish School

At Taronja, the classes are kept between 4 and 12 students per group, so you’re always learning alongside others at a similar level. The intensive course is five days a week, with four lessons each day, giving you a solid language boost in a short time. The schedule alternates, meaning you’ll either have a couple of free mornings or afternoons each week, which is perfect for exploring Valencia or just relaxing in the meantime. What’s cool is that every week, just as your schedule alternates, you also have different teachers.

Class Schedule

The class schedule alternates daily between morning and afternoon sessions. For example, if you start with morning classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, your schedule will look like this, if you also choose to do the conversation classes:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Intensive course from 9:00 AM to 12:40 PM, followed by conversation classes from 12:45 PM to 1:35 PM.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: Conversation class from 12:45 PM to 1:35 PM, a break, then intensive course from 2:30 PM to 6:10 PM.

If you start with afternoon classes on Monday instead, then the schedule will switch accordingly. Conversation classes remain at the same time each day, regardless of whether your intensive course is in the morning or afternoon. Additionally, during the intensive course, you’ll always have a 20-minute break.

Costs of taking Spanish classes at Taronja

A full week of the intensive Spanish course at Taronja costs €195. If you add an extra hour of conversation classes each day, the total comes to €235 per week. For those interested in daily private classes in addition to the intensive course and conversation classes, the cost is €405 per week.

If you stay for multiple weeks, you might benefit from a reduced weekly rate. Plus, you can mix and match your schedule—adding conversation classes one week and skipping them the next.

Activities at Taronja Spanish School

Taronja offers a lot of activities throughout the week. The new activity schedule is always announced the week before, and you can find it online; it is mentioned in class and communicated within a WhatsApp group.

There is an activity every day of the week after class, and usually also one on Sundays. The activities are all voluntary, of course, and typically just cost a couple of Euros. They range from cooking classes to Paella nights, or to beach parties. It’s a good way to meet people at the school that aren’t in your class.

And on the weekends, when you don’t have classes, you can also plan some amazing day trips from Valencia.

Accommodation at Taronja Spanish School

Taronja Spanish School also offers several accommodation options. These are not at the school, but rather at various different locations throughout the city. You can choose between places with shared bathrooms or your own bathroom, or even a private studio. And it is also possible to stay at a host family, to also practise some more Spanish at home.

The accommodation does book out, especially in the busy summer months, so make sure to book a bit in advance if you are planning to organise accommodation through the Spanish School. Accommodation starts at €175 a week.

I personally did not stay at the Taronja accommodation, because it was already full, and I booked it too late, but I heard mostly positive things about it. If you are also too late, then I would recommend Livensa Living Studios Marina Real. It is located near the beach, it’s an easy commute to the Spanish School and I really liked this place and the rooms!

Summary of studying Spanish at Taronja

Overall, I enjoyed my time at Taronja Spanish school. My class was relatively small, which I liked, and I liked that we had a lot of different teachers. There were also a lot of activities to choose from, so if I wanted to I could have had plans every day, which was nice! Most of the teachers were also pretty cool, we only had one teacher who had very strong opinions and would start arguing about it, which I was not a fan of. However, all the other teachers were great.

I think maybe they could have done a little bit of a better job checking what language level people had previously and communicating what the level of the course was, to make sure that the content in the class wasn’t too repetitive. As I didn’t even know what level the course was that I was in, and it contained a lot of things that I had studied before. However, it’s been a while since my last Spanish course, so either way, I definitely needed to repeat it.

However, I have to stay, I much preferred my experience studying Spanish in Colombia. Just because of the size of the school, it felt a bit less personal, and I also found that there were a lot of groups that had formed, so due to the number of people at activities, it was a bit more difficult meeting people than it was at a smaller Spanish school in Colombia. But then, of course also, everyone’s experience is different.

But overall, it was a good learning experience, and I would definitely return some day!

📱Looking for mobile data? If you don’t have an EU SIM card, then how about getting a Spanish E-SIM instead of a physical card. You can install it before your trip, and you’ll immediately have data when landing in Spain.
