Are you looking to purchase a carry on suitcase, and are considering the Gibraltar Aluminium Carry-On from Level8? I’ve recently got this suitcase myself, and as someone who loves to travel and definitely will take this carry on suitcase on multiple trips, I wanted to give you a review of it. Maybe that can give you an idea on if you would want to purchase this suitcase yourself or not.
Because ideally, a carry on is something you purchase once, and then you don’t really want to worry about it for a couple of years. It also takes up quite some space, so you don’t necessarily want to have more than one anyway. So it would be great to have one that fits every travel occasion where travelling with a carry-on is useful.

Weight and measurements of the Level8 Gibraltar Carry-On Suitcase
Based on the data provided on the website, the Level8 Gibraltar carry-on has the following measurements, as stated on their website: 22”L × 15”W × 8.4”H (55.8 × 38.1 × 21.3 cm).
The weight of the suitcase is 4.5 kg (10lbs) and it fits 36 litres in total.
I also measured it myself at home and rounded it to about 51 cm (55 with the wheels) x 36 cm × 22 cm.
The first thing I noticed was that it might be a little bit bigger than the measurements provided for some airlines that I would usually fly with. So depending on how strict they are and if the suitcase does fit in the little measurement box at the airport, that is just something to keep in mind. I will add an update here once I find out myself and know more about it.
So, if you are flying with the Level8 carry-on, I would always suggest checking the allowed measurements for the airlines you are flying with to make sure it’s within the limits. But based on the limits I’ve researched, for Ryanair it might be over by a centimetre or two.
However, for EasyJet, Wizzair, and KLM it seems to be within limits. But might be good to keep that in mind, as you don’t want to pay extra when you are at the airport and to double check for your airline.

- WizzAir: 55 x 40 x 23 cm (10 kg)
- EasyJet: 56 x 45 x 25 cm
- KLM: 55 x 35 x 25 cm (12 kg)
How much does the Level8 Gibraltar carry-on cost?
The suitcase currently costs €459.99 [as of May 2025]. Which absolutely is a lot of money. But then ideally you buy a carry-on once and then get to keep it for multiple years. But you can also get some carry-ons at Level8 that are less expensive than this one.
I think going for an aluminium suitcase will in general be a bit pricier than just a fabric suitcase or a basic hard shell one, but it might last you a little longer.
What I like about this carry-on suitcase
- Very quick to open and close: You can easily open and close the suitcase with the buckles on the side. So there is no need to zip and unzip. I have not had the suitcase for a very long time now, but so far it seems very stable.
- The look: You can purchase the Gibraltar carry on suitcase in two colours: silver and grey. I’ve opted for the silver one, and it’s super stylish and looks amazing. The material feels super high quality.
- Rolls with very little effort: The suitcase has 4 360° durable wheels, and rolling and turning it has been super smooth. It also feels very balanced. I don’t need to worry about it falling over to one side, and the suitcase feels very stable in general. Rolling the suitcase also makes very little noise, compared to other suitcases I own.
- It also comes with the Level8 packing cubes (worth $49.99), as well as a luggage tag (worth $29.99). I love packing cubes and since first getting them I would never travel without again. So far I’ve been super happy with the quality of the Level8 packing cubes. My old ones were about 12 years old, and maybe needed an upgrade.
- Place to keep documents: The carry-on suitcase has an extra compartment inside to store documents, entry tickets, or notebooks. The compartments are flexible and removable, so you have some flexibility based on what you need or don’t need when you are travelling.
- TSA approved locks: With these two TSA approved locks you can easily lock the suitcase without having to bring an extra lock, as well as you always know that your belongings are safe. At least as long as you don’t lose your suitcase.

Highlights: Aluminium case, TSA approved locks, 360° durable wheels, removable compartments to keep documents, comes with packing cubes and a luggage tag, easy to lock the suitcase, very stable and balanced, and it even comes with packing cubes and a luggage tag.
Only con so far for me: A little heavier than other suitcases, might not fit as a carry-on for all budget airlines. So that is something to keep in mind.
Level8 Alternatives to the Gibraltar carry-on
If you are looking for a different carry on but are still considering a Level8 suitcase, let me show you some alternatives. These are suitcases I also considered, but in the end I decided that I just liked the Gibraltar carry-on the most.
Polaris carry-on: I love the look of this, and it also a little lighter than the Gibraltar, while fitting even a little more. Unfortunately, they didn’t ship this one to Europe, which to be honest wasn’t super clear to me on the website. It costs €309.99.
Creator Carry-on: Comes with a laptop pocket in the front so you can easily take your laptop out on the go, without opening your whole suitcase. The creator carry-on costs €439.99. Or alternatively, the Road runner carry-on, which costs €179.99 and also comes with the laptop pocket.
Luminous textured carry-on: This hard shell suitcase first caught my eye. Mostly because they have a colour option in pink! This cute suitcase (they do have other colour options as well), comes with an anti-scratch surface, and fits 40 litres. It’s also a less heavy option than the Gibraltar carry-on, as it weighs only 3.5 kg. The luminous textured carry-on costs €169.99.
What else can you purchase from Level8
If you don’t actually need a carry-on, but instead you’re looking for a large suitcase as well and not just a carry on, then Level8 also has options for that. I personally have not tested those, so I can’t tell you anything about their quality, but by the looks of it, I really like the luminous textured check in and the Voyageur check in.
And other than suitcases, Level8 also sells a couple of travel accessories, such as the above-mentioned travel cubes or luggage tags. But since both of these are already included with the Gibraltar carry-on, you don’t really have to worry about purchasing them separately.
But maybe you want to check out the luggage covers, or a toiletry bag. Of course, you can also purchase that from a different brand, and it will fit your suitcase just fine.

The US, Canada, EU countries and the UK have free shipping but if you are ordering from somewhere else you will most likely have to pay shipping fees.
Shipping times are relatively quick, but then again, it depends on where you are ordering from. I ordered from the Netherlands and my suitcase arrived within 3–4 days.
When I would use this suitcase?
I love the look of the suitcase, but compared to other suitcases or bags it is also more on the heavier side, which is normal for the sort of material. So if I am only travelling with a carry-on, and I have a low weight limit, I might opt for another bag. But this suitcase is perfect for short trips where I am not flying or don’t have to worry so much about the weight.
It would be the perfect suitcase for taking the Eurostar to London (from Amsterdam) for a couple of days. Where I don’t need to worry about weight limits and the exact size but still want to travel in style, with a suitcase I can move around without much effort.

Would I recommend the Level8 Gibraltar Carry-On?
Yes, absolutely! So far I’ve been very happy with this suitcase and would recommend it. I have not had the suitcase long enough, to say something about its durability, so don’t quote me on that. But I will happily come back and update this post once I know more.
But I can imagine the material does get scratches quite easily, so definitely would not check it in when flying, but only take it in the cabin with me. Either way, that is just what happens with luggage overtime.
Compared to other carry-ons, of course, the Gibraltar Carr-on from Level8 might be a little heavier than other suitcases, but that is just what you get with the material. Depending on the weight allowance and how long I will be travelling, this might not always be my go-to carry-on, but this will certainly be my go-to suitcase for short trips where I won’t be flying. It’s super stylish and fits with every outfit. And to be honest, I have always wanted to have a silver suitcase like this, so it is exactly what I was looking for.
