Is it your first time travelling to Marrakesh and you are wondering how to travel from Marrakesh Menara airport to the city. I have recently done a short trip to Marrakesh, and I was wondering the same! So you have come to the right place, but also the trip itself it super straightforward! The airport itself is only around 7.4 km (4.6 miles) away from the city centre, so you won’t need to plan in much time for this trip.
The easiest and most convenient option of course is to travel by taxi. As you can imagine, there are plenty of taxis available once you leave the airport. Another popular option is to arrange an airport pick-up through your accommodation, which is also pretty common.
But you’re travelling alone and/or want to save money—or avoid the hassle of finding a taxi—you can easily take the bus from Marrakesh airport to the city.

Which bus takes you from the Marrakesh Menara airport to the city?
There are multiple buses that take you to the city. The tourist bus which is the one that stops just in front of the airport is the bus L19. This one is probably the easiest to take, and leaves roughly every 20 minutes throughout the day.
There are other buses which are a lot cheaper but don’t leave from right outside the airport, such as the bus L12.
You can easily just check all the bus connections on Google Maps once you arrive (so make sure you have your E-SIM, so you’ll have data).

Where to get the bus at Marrakesh airport to the city centre?
To take the L19 bus, walk out of the exit at the departure hall, and just follow the signs to the car park and taxis. It’s literary like a 30-second walk, it’s super close! There you should be able to see a bus stop that says Alsa and probably a bus waiting already right in front of it. Otherwise, you won’t need to wait longer than a couple of minutes.
How much does the bus from Marrakesh airport to the city centre cost?
The bus costs 30 MAD (€2.85) for a one-way ride, or 50 MAD (€4.76) for a return ticket. There is no need to buy any tickets beforehand, and you can just purchase them directly from the driver when entering the bus. You will need to pay in cash.
You can find a couple of different ATMs in the departure hall of the airport, where you can get some cash. Or if for some reason you want to instead exchange money instead, you can also do so in the arrival hall at Marrakesh airport.
The bills I received from the ATM were small enough to not have any issues paying with them in the bus directly. But if you do have any issues or want to break down the bills, I would recommend just buying a drink at a shop in the airport. That’s what I usually do!
The other bus that leaves not directly from the airport, but instead a couple of minutes walk from the entrance, only costs 4 MAD (€0.38) for a one way trip. Just check on Google Maps how to get to the stop.
Where in Marrakesh is the bus going to drop you off?
The L19 bus has a couple of stops, but most people probably will get off at Jamaa El Fna, which is a 12-minute ride away, or 5 stops. This is a square in the heart of Marrakesh, that you will probably visit a couple of times during your stay here.
From there you can most likely walk to your accommodation, or grab a taxi. The Riad Zanouba, where I was staying, was another 27-minute walk away from the square, but it was a nice way to already see a few areas of Marrakesh while searching for my accommodation.
How long is the bus ride from Marrakesh airport to the city centre?
You might need to walk a bit afterwards, but getting to the centre (Jamaa El Fna square) by bus can take you only about 12 minutes. It’s so close by!
And this was the little summary of how to travel by bus from Marrakesh airport to the city! There are always options to take taxis all the way of course, which might not even be that much more expensive, especially if you are travelling with multiple people.
However, especially as a solo traveller in Marrakesh, just travelling by bus from the airport to Marrakesh centre is the cheaper option. And it’s also so quick and easy that I would definitely recommend that if you are not super short on time.
