25 Productive Things to do at Home

While in some parts of the world life is slowly going back to normal, in others’ the whole situation we are in is getting worse every single day. But in whatever part of the world you are in, it is still wise to stay home as often as possible and avoid any gatherings or restaurant visits.

But if you are spending so much time at home it can be difficult to stay productive and not spend your entire time watching Netflix and Youtube. Here are 25 productive things to do at home that can help you feel organised or even impact your further life and career.

1. Complete a course on Coursera

Coursera courses are great for so many reasons. For once, of course you can learn so many cool and live-changing skills, that can help you in your further career or business you want to start.

And secondly, you can earn a lot of certificates that you can add to your LinkedIn profile and mention on your resume.

You can for example get your TESOL certificate on Coursera which will allow you to teach English abroad or online.

If you are a blogger or work in marketing or just interested in marketing in general you can take a course on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). In that course you can learn a lot of useful skills that you can use to further your career

There are so many courses to choose from, you can even get a IBM Data Science Professional Certificate or you can get an entire degree from Coursera.

2. Learn a New Language

Learning another language is really important as you will get a better understanding of another culture and you are able to communicate in a completely different way.

I often use Duolingo which is such a fun app but I don’t think it can really teach you a language by itself but it is more for increasing your vocabulary knowledge and getting started with a language.

One important part of language learning (if not the most important one) is speaking and practising with native speakers. Italki is a great resource for you to connect with native speakers across the globe and start speaking the language.

Rosetta Stone is also a well known website to learn languages in a fun way. You can choose between a lot of different languages such as Arabic, Korean, Russian, Hindi, Farsi and many more.

3. Sort out your closet

Every now and then you need to sort out some old clothes and organise your closet. The old clothes you can sell on Ebay to make some extra cash or even better bring to a local charity to donate.

4. Clean out your Email Inbox

I once started putting my emails in categories and deleting unnecessary emails right away. In this way my inbox is really empty and I feel so much more organised.

But. I have more than one email address and still haven’t got around to doing the same to my other inboxes.

5. Organise your documents on your Laptop

It can be difficult to find any specific document if you have millions of documents and downloads and no real structure into your files.

Take some time to create some folders and delete unnecessary downloads to declutter your laptop or computer.

6. Move old Documents to hard drive

To clear up some space from your computer you should move files that you don’t need to your hard drive every now and then. Also to back up your files.

7. Sort out pictures on your phone and laptop

We often probably have so many random pictures on our phones that we don’t really need anymore. Like screenshots of the bus route or online tickets or random pictures that were send in Whatsapp groups.

So it’s always a good idea to declutter your pictures and sort them into relevant folders.

8. Create to-do lists

I love creating to-do lists to get an idea of what needs to be done. I usually create to-do lists for every day or for a certain project or whatever I need to work on.

9. Start a Bullet Journal

If you are creating any form of lists, then creating a bullet journal is always a fun way to keep all your tasks and appointments organised.

10. Create daily, monthly, yearly goals

This is something I always put in my bullet journal but you can also write down all your goals on a separate sheet of paper. Set some goals that you want to achieve and work towards them.

I always like to include something that is not too difficult to achieve as well so that I can at least have some feeling of achievement if I don’t manage to achieve all the other goals that I had set for myself.

11. Create a vision board

A vision board is a collage of text and/or pictures that show your dreams and goals. Having a vision board is a great way to visualise your dreams and keep you motivated to work on your goals.

You can create a vision board for a certain year or for your entire life or whatever you feel like doing and whatever keeps you focused and motivated.

12. Clean your make-up brushes

Also not my favourite activity but you should always clean your make-up brushes every now and then. Especially if you use them often, as make up brushes will go on your face and you don’t want to unnecessarily put any dirt on your face.

13. Organise your desk

If your desk is clean and organised, you will also be more productive and focused when working and trying to get things done. Therefore, make sure to always keep your desk organised and tidy to be more productive in everything else you do.

14. Listen to a podcast

Believe it or not but I have actually only started listening to podcasts during quarantine. I knew what they were of course but have never listened to a podcast before in my life.

If you have a Spotify account, you can find a bunch of awesome and interesting podcast there that you can listen to. I am currently binge-listening to all sorts of True-Crime podcasts.

15. Update your resume

Not the most fun activity to do but certainly necessary every now and then. But not only the content of your CV is important also the layout has a huge impact on how your job application will be received.

Canva has a bunch of amazing CV layouts where you can create a beautiful resume in no time. And Canva is absolutely free to use. It is definitely a super useful website, I also use it for creating Pinterest Pins, Instagram stories and so much more.

16. Sort your foods based on expiry date

There is nothing more frustrating than buying food and then not eating it in time. Of course, you can always eat food a little longer than what the expiry date says but the best scenario would just be to don’t let it come to that in the first place.

Look for your food storage and see what needs to be eaten in the next time and put those food items in the front. I sometimes also make a list of things that I have that expire soon so I won’t forget to eat it.

17. Go to the gym/home workouts

Most of us don’t have a gym at home so this point is probably not “at home”. If you don’t have a gym membership or don’t feel like going to the gym, of course, you can also do home workouts.

For most home workouts you don’t need any type of equipment, or maybe just a yoga matt. There are so many amazing free workouts that you can follow on Youtube.

18. Do online surveys

This is not the most efficient way to make money but still you can get a couple of dollars or gift cards every now and then. I usually do online surveys which payout in Amazon gift cards.

In that way I never really have to spend my own money when I order something from Amazon which is great.

With Swagbucks for example you can earn gift cards.

19. Create a profile on Fiverr

Fiverr is a great way for you to hire freelancers to complete small tasks for you such as creating a logo, managing social media profiles or whatever work you need done.

But you can of course also offer your own services on Fiverr and start making some money. Think of anything that you can offer, creating Pinterest Pins, translating texts, etc.

20. Work on your LinkedIn Profile

You could be spending your time on other social networks like Twitter or Instagram or you could spend your time on a social network that is actually going to be helpful in your professional life and future.

Lots of potential companies will check out your LinkedIn profile in the future, so you should make sure you have an outstanding profile. Add all the certificates that you have and make sure your university education and work history is complete.

21. Schedule social media posts

If you are a blogger, influencer or have your own business then it is often important to regularly post on social media. If you want to save some time you can also schedule your posts in advance. In that way it is always easy to keep posting at the same time every day/week etc.

To schedule Instagram posts I use Planoly which is really great. For Pinterest Pins I use Tailwind which allows me to schedule pins at any time. Mostly during the night as most of my audience is the US and I’m usually sleeping when they are active.

You can try out Tailwind for free for an entire month so make sure to sign up now.

22. Start a blog

Having a blog can be a fun hobby or even be a source of income. In either way there are so many different topics that you can post about. Basically about anything at all that you find interesting. A blog about fashion, a blog about finances, a travel blog, or even a blog about reviewing Netflix shows. Basically whatever floats your boat!

Here are my tips for starting a blog: definitely start going self-hosted right away, invest in a domain name and a premium theme. And also start getting into Pinterest and posting your content on this platform as early as possible.

23. Write a book

I guess writing a book certainly isn’t for everybody. And as much as I would like to write a book myself one day, I can’t seem to even come up with a story idea.

Anyway. It’s always been a dream of mine to write a full story even if I am the only person that is ever going to read it.

24. Get creative with your old clothes

If you found some old clothes that you don’t need anymore but can’t sell online then you might want to start making old clothes unique.

Find some tutorials online on how to sew or how to dye your clothes in different colours.

25. Create evening/ morning routines

With a unique and well-planned out morning routine, you can start off your day in the right way and be more productive throughout your day.

Create an ideal morning and evening routine that you want to follow every day to start and end your day in the right way. List down all the things that you want to get done, like working out, cleaning up your workspace, read etc.

And that’s it! Here are 25 productive things to do at home. Of course there are many many more but just wanted to give you some ideas of productive things you can do when bored at home other than watching Netflix and being on social media.

Talk to you later x
